Who runs economic development in Chesterfield County
A new reader's guide to the people behind the county's biggest business deals: the Economic Development Department staff who recruit companies, and the seven-member Economic Development Authority that issues bonds and holds land. Seventeen names, their roles, and the facts that explain why each is in the room. Officer roles are attributed to the county's own current listing and dated, because they rotate and published sources lag: the authority's own FY2025 audit named a different secretary. Portraits are government-produced images only; where none exists we show initials rather than borrow one.
The Data Center page is now a full accountability hub
Our data center page is now the deepest local resource on Google's Chesterfield buildout. New sections spell out what it means for your water, your electric bill, and your taxes (separating what is established from what is still contested), a sourced timeline of how we got here (from the 2018 NDAs to the 2020 same-day land flip to the latest votes), and the key numbers on the record, including the ones Google still will not disclose. Every figure links its source.
Search the whole site
A new Search page (in the News menu) lets you instantly find any Chesterfield story by keyword, right in your browser. Handy for digging up past coverage of a road project, a school, or a neighborhood.

Data Center Tracker
A new standing Data Center Tracker: every data-center project in Chesterfield in one place, including Google's $9 billion three-campus buildout, with a map of the sites, each project's status and key dates, and all of our coverage. It updates automatically as we publish new stories.
Local Nonprofits directory
A new Local Nonprofits directory and map of the charities and groups that serve Chesterfield, from food pantries and free clinics to senior, youth, veteran, and crisis help. Filter by category, and any organization can ask to be added or corrected.
Yard Sales
A new Yard Sales map where you can post your own garage, yard, estate, or moving sale for free, and filter what's coming up by today, tomorrow, this week, or this month. It also lists the big annual neighborhood community sales. Sales drop off the map on their own once they are over.
Support the Report
If you value free local news for Chesterfield, there is now a Support button in the footer. Reader support helps keep the site going and free to read.
Corrections, in the open
We added a clear corrections policy and a Corrections link in the footer of every page. If we get something wrong, tell us and we will fix it and say so.
Community Resources hub
A new Community Resources page gathering help that is often hard to find in one place: schools and ESL, legal and immigration aid, health and food, voting, consulates, and the county's Office of Multicultural Engagement.
Places of Worship
A new Places of Worship map of congregations across every faith in and around the county, with a filter by tradition. Any congregation can ask to be added or corrected.
Parks & Recreation
A new Parks page with a map of parks across Chesterfield County, color coded by type, so you can find the green space, trail, or playground nearest you.
Elected Offices
New Elected Offices pages for the county's constitutional officers, the Clerk of the Circuit Court, Commissioner of the Revenue, Commonwealth's Attorney, Sheriff, and Treasurer, with what each office does and how to reach it.
The Chesterfield Report, en español
The whole site is now available in Spanish. Use the EN / ES toggle in the header to switch, and we remember your choice. Every section, including the news, is translated. Lee en español.
Police and Fire pages
New pages for Chesterfield County Police and Chesterfield Fire & EMS: who runs each, where the stations are, what they cost and on what, how many officers and firefighters there are, and what the work looks like, all from official county figures.
District maps on the Voter Guide
The Voter Guide now shows how Chesterfield is split between the 1st and 4th congressional districts, with maps and a plain-language explainer, plus a fix so the address lookup works in every browser.
2026 Voter Guide
A nonpartisan Voter Guide for the 2026 elections: the calendar (early voting for the August 4 primary is open now), what's on your ballot, and how to register and vote, with links to the official sources.

A new Farmers Markets page covering the markets in Chesterfield County and the Richmond area, with days, hours, locations, and what each one sells. Shop local.
Virginia & Region
A new Virginia & Region section for statewide and regional news that affects Chesterfield residents, like state laws, the budget, and utility rates, kept separate from our local coverage.
Quicker ways to explore
The homepage now has shortcut tiles to the Board of Supervisors, Development & Zoning, Events, and Schools, and the menu was reorganized so the sections you use most are easier to reach.
Things to Do
A new Things to Do page with concerts, shows, family events, and games across the county and the greater Richmond region, each with a link to tickets.
The foundation
The Chesterfield Report launched with the core that still drives it: local news gathered from official sources and outlets, written in plain language and linked back to the originals, plus dedicated pages for your Board of Supervisors (including who funds them), meetings, taxes and the budget, development and zoning cases, schools, dining, neighborhoods, housing, and the ongoing Shoosmith landfill investigation.
