Who runs it
Carpenter leads the department through the Office of the Chief and three branches: Operations, Administrative Services, and Professional Standards. The department serves about 387,700 residents across 437 square miles.
Where the money goes
Department budget: $119.3 million (FY2026 General Fund). Like most public-safety agencies, the great majority is people, not equipment.
The county budgets the Police Department together with Animal Services, the 911 Emergency Communications Center, and the Magistrate's Office, so this $119.3M line is not police-only. The department reported its police operations at about $99.2 million in fiscal 2025.

From the department's 2024 annual report, the most recent full year it has published; a police annual report comes out months after the year ends, so the 2025 edition is not out yet. The department does not publish a single annual total-arrests figure, so the enforcement numbers below are the ones it reports.
More recent, partial 2025 data: through November 2025, overall reported crime was down to about 12,453 offenses from 14,113 in 2024, though domestic-violence, weapons, and drug-possession cases rose, per a county crime report. Where it is
Chesterfield Police operate from a central headquarters at the County complex on Iron Bridge Road, supported by community-policing offices and patrol facilities around the county rather than numbered precincts.
Authorized strength in 2024 was 564 sworn officers, plus 153 full-time and 68 part-time professional (civilian) staff. More than 200 volunteers contributed over 23,000 hours in 2024.
