Introducing Opinion: your voice in Chesterfield

An editorial note from The Chesterfield Report.

Most of what we publish is reporting: what the county decided, where the road is changing, when the meeting is. This page is different. Opinion is where Chesterfield residents get to weigh in — in their own words, about the place they live.

We're starting it for a simple reason. A roundabout, a school boundary, a rezoning, a budget line — these land differently depending on which part of the county you call home. The person who drives Hull Street every morning sees a project one way; the family next to the construction sees it another. Both are worth hearing, and neither shows up in a government press release.

How it works. Letters run as clearly labeled Opinion, separate from our news coverage. You can sign your name or stay anonymous — your call. We verify that a real person sent it, we may trim for length and clarity, and not every letter runs. What we won't run: personal attacks, unverified accusations, or anything that isn't about Chesterfield County. Keep it civil, keep it local, keep it roughly under 400 words.

We also try to do something the daily news often skips: lay out the honest case for and against the decisions we cover, so you can make up your own mind. Opinion is the other half of that — your turn to make the case.
