The story
Chesterfield County Public Schools completed a $9.5 million renovation of its Career and Technical Center at Hull, converting former office space into specialized learning environments. The project nearly doubled the facility's classroom capacity by adding 42,000 square feet of new instructional space.
The expansion supports six career pathways: Business, Energy, Health Science, Hospitality and Tourism and Lodging Management, Information Technology, and Television and Media Production. Students began using the newly renovated spaces when the 2026 school year started.
The growth responds to substantial demand for technical education in the region. In the previous school year, over 2,200 students submitted more than 3,600 applications for only 1,335 available first-year seats at the center.
Principal Brian Russell cited regional economic factors driving the need for expanded capacity. "We're looking at a Metro Richmond area growth and power and energy, we're looking for supporting our hospitality, tourism, and lodging that's coming in this area," Russell said. He added that the center aims to stay current with industry trends, saying "We want to stay as current as possible with the current industry trends that are happening in Chesterfield County."
