MacLauchlan closed out the championship with a birdie putt on the 31st hole. "It's pretty surreal, pretty unbelievable to call myself a United States Junior champion," he said of the victory. His brother Liam caddied for him throughout the tournament after missing the cut for match play. Liam is committed to play golf for Virginia.

The victory carries significant prizes. MacLauchlan earned an exemption to the US Open at Pebble Beach next year and an automatic exemption to the US Amateur at Merion in August. He will begin his college golf career this fall as a freshman at Liberty University.
