The story
Chesterfield County is hosting several free community programs this week and into late July, offering families chances to connect with local organizations and help young children prepare for school.
The My First School Bus program runs through July 31 at county library locations, giving rising pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students a chance to practice boarding a school bus and learn about school bus safety. Sessions are scheduled at multiple Chesterfield County Public Library branches, including Ettrick-Matoaca Library on Tuesday, July 21, Clover Hill Library on Wednesday, July 22, and Enon Library on Friday, July 31. The program is a partnership among Chesterfield County Public Schools, Chesterfield County Police Department, and Chesterfield Public Library. All rising pre-K and kindergarten students are welcome to participate in the information portion; only students enrolled in Chesterfield County Public Schools may board the bus itself. Registration is required.
Summer in the Park comes to Irvin G. Horner Park on Thursday, July 16 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The free event features bounce houses, yard games, music, and free treats. Horner Park is located at 17701 Genito Road, Moseley, VA 23120. Additional Summer in the Parks events are scheduled at Harrowgate Park on Tuesday, July 28 and Huguenot Park on Thursday, July 30, both from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
A free Community Nonprofit Resource Fair is scheduled Friday, July 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Beulah Recreation Center, 6901 Hopkins Road, North Chesterfield, VA 23234. More than 30 local nonprofit organizations will be present, offering information on services ranging from youth and young adult programming to senior care and recovery services. C-Fit Community will announce winners of mini grants designed to help community members improve their quality of life. Light refreshments and giveaways will be available.
